Digital shipbuilding by Incat Crowther

A new 35m (114.8') catamaran for CTM Deher of Guadeloupe in the French West Indies has been revealed by Incat Crowther, who will begin building this month. With the help of Incat Crowther's Digital Shipbuilding technology, the Incat Crowther 35 is being constructed by PT Kim Seah Shipyard Indonesia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore's publicly traded Penguin International Ltd.

The Digital Shipbuilding system from Incat Crowther brings together the designer, the shipyard, and the owner in a single, integrated process that runs from conception to completion.

It was Incat Crowther who played a pivotal role in the development of the project and, through close collaboration with the operator, facilitated shipyard selection and the contracting solution. Incat Crowther will also be involved in quality assurance throughout the shipbuilding and delivery processes.

Among the most important features of Incat Crowther's Digital Shipbuilding solution is the creation of a comprehensive 3D digital model of a ship, which includes all of the ship's structural parts, mechanical and systems components, as well as any connected data. This comprehensive model of the ship enables for rigorous control of the building and quality management processes, as well as the weight of the vessel, in order to assure that it will operate and function exactly as intended.

The project will also benefit from the contribution of Incat Crowther's quality management system. One of the shipyard's engineering teams will collaborate with an on-site representative who will report directly to the owner.

On two decks, the new-build ferry will accommodate 316 passengers, divided into two distinct classes. The two decks are connected by a huge midship stairway, which also serves as a luggage storage space. The aft end of the main deck has a kiosk, and bathrooms are located aft of the kiosk. In the area aft of the main deck stateroom, there is a spacious luggage room that has its own unique entry. When moving large, heavy luggage trolleys, overhead gantries can be of great assistance.

The aft external area of the mid-deck accommodates 48 guests in exterior seats. For better all-round visibility, the wheelhouse has been raised somewhat.

It will be powered by twin MTU 12V4000 main engines with a combined output of 1,380 kW (1,849 horsepower) and will propel the vessel with five-bladed propellers. During reduced MCR, the vessel will be capable of 25 knots in service speed.
