Varco BJ "SPL" type elevators using tapered inserts are conventional center latch type elevators for handling a single joint of 18° drill pipe and 12° or 5° casing and tubing. There are 3 types with 5 ton capacity covering 18° drill pipe sizes from 3 1/2" to 6 5/8" O.D, 12° tubing sizes from 2 3/8" to 4 1/2" O.D. and 5° casing or tubing sizes 2 7/8" to 10 3/4" O.D.
